Helga Gerlitz

Senior Community Dietitian, Home Enteral Feeding

Community Healthcare Organisation (CHO) Dublin North City and County

Helga graduated in 2002 with a BSC Hons in Nutrition and Dietetics from The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen Scotland.  After working initially in acute settings - Cork University Hospital and Ninewells Hospital Dundee, Helga gained a senior dietetics post in the community with NHS Tayside (Dundee, Scotland) where she worked for 6 years specialising in adult home enteral nutrition (HEN). In 2009, Helga returned to Ireland to work as a senior community dietitian for CHO Dublin North City and County (DNCC), where she still works as an adult home enteral nutrition specialist. As part of this role, Helga helped to set up the first ever primary care adult home enteral nutrition service in the Republic of Ireland.

Over the past few years Helga has worked with her colleagues at CHO DNCC on a number of audit and development projects which have received very positive feedback from service users. More recently, Helga has co-authored the Home Enteral Tube Feeding section of the revised INDI Nutrition Support Guideline and is a member of the development group of the soon to be launched National HSE Guideline for adults receiving home enteral nutrition in primary care.
